About Us
Portview is focused on building community. That focus includes the community of faith of those who call Portview their church home, as well as the communities in which we live and serve.
We believe in investing in the community’s future through outreach programs and partnerships with business and civic organizations. Most recently we’ve built an 11,000 square foot youth and community center which is now open.
What do we believe?
The Bible is God’s inspired word and is the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.
God is God. Period. He is the one true God and has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM.” He created all things and is the Redeemer of mankind.
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, part of the Trinity - made up of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Mankind has separated himself from God by sinning and our only hope of redemption, or reconciliation to God, is through faith in Jesus.
There are two ordinances of the Church. Some churches call these “sacraments.” The first is baptism by immersion. We believe that all who proclaim faith in Jesus as their savior are to be baptized. This is a public statement of their new life in Christ.
The second is Holy Communion. This is a way of expressing our sharing of the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:4 ), a memorial of his suffering and death (1 Corinthians 11:26 ), and a prophecy of His second coming (1 Corinthians 11:26 ), and is observed by all believers.
In Acts, Christ promises us a power in our life of faith through His Holy Spirit. All believers are entitled to and should enthusiastically expect and earnestly seek this promise. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church. With it comes the power for life and service to God.
The baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is marked by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit enables.
Sanctification is an act of dedication unto God and separation from all things that displease Him. It is the life-long process of submitting our daily life to the Holy Spirit.
The Church described in the Bible includes all who have placed their faith in Jesus as their only means of salvation. It has no boundaries as to age, race, gender or denomination. It is the function and purpose of this Community of believers to fulfill the mission God gave us through His Son - that being to take the story of His love and sacrifice to all people that they would in turn believe in Christ as their Savior. We are also called to worship God corporately - as believers. Finally we, the Church, are to be an agency engaged in discipling and encouraging believers in their faith.
In addition to our salvation, Jesus provided for our healing through His death and resurrection. Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel and is the privilege of all believers.
On a day that will seem to us like any other day Jesus will come back to earth for all who believe in Him as their Savior - both those who have already died and those of us still living. This gives us tremendous hope, excitement and purpose in our lives. After this return, or Second Coming, of Christ, He will establish His rule over the earth for a thousand years.
God is such a loving God. He loves each of us so much that He offered His only Son, Jesus, as a way for us to be reconciled back to Him. Our sin separates us from Him, but through Jesus we receive forgiveness of our sin and the promise of a life spent with Him in Heaven, forever. After Christ has ruled over the earth for a thousand years, there will be a ruling, or judgment, of all humanity from all time according to the way they lived. All the names of those who have accepted Christ as their Savior will be found in the Book of Life. Anyone whose name is not written in this book will be sent into eternity separated from God in hell.
All those whose names are found in the Book of Life will spend eternity with God in a place He has prepared for us, referred to as “The New Heavens and the New Earth.”
